Jazz Portraits 17-Dorothy Ashby (Harp)

I found Dorothy's music through hip hop. INI+Pete Rock to be exact. I'm syill digging into her sound but my favorites of her's so far are "Drink" , "Heaven and Hell", and of course "Cause I need it". If you can tell me the name of the LP Pete Rock sampled "Cause i need it", i'll send you a drawing. :)

Brother Pele linked me with these musicians who make a dope mixture of punk, rock, metal, and many other influences. Starting earlier this year me and JT (vocalist)started to work on the design. Check out the process as I tried to think of something subtle to match the energy of these talents young cats' music. I finally got to see them perform live this week at the ALAY open mic and man I was impressed!!! You need to go see them LIVE. Best punk/hip hop show I've seen since Game Rebellion in Brooklyn. Anyways, hit them up on Facecrack or twitter. If you say you support real music, not that fake commercial shit, buy a cd at i-tunes or at Amoeba. Its called "This is what happens when monkeys make music"!

"Dey Suffer" by Richy Pitch feat. Yasmeen

The conversation for this joint began back in august of last year. I been paying attention to this dudes work here and there since he did a joint called Day to Day w/ Apani B Fly (incredible song). I hit him up to collaborate and the rest is history. Coming out on the London based BBE Records this song features some dope production by Richy and some incredible vocals by singer Yasmeen from Ghana. The entire record is full of slaps that were the result of a....check out Richy Pitch's site to learn the full story. And check out some of the process of making this. It's already been reviewed on Okay Africa, Shakara, Tropical Bass, and i admit it looks pretty fresh to see it on I-Tunes too! Support good music.
